The Church of St Mary de Haura

Exhibition

St Mary's hosted an important exhibition on stained glass old and new during the Adur Festival 2009.

'Seeing the Light' Exhibition

St Mary's and St Nicolas' once again hosted major exhibitions during
the Adur Festival, which ran from Saturday June 6th to Saturday June 20th.

This year's theme was 'Seeing the Light' and the exhibitions were a celebration of stained glass old and new. At St Mary's, local artist, stained glass maker and teacher Sue Wallis managed an exhibition of new glass, and a demonstration workshop, while local history groups and church members presented their research on the Victorian windows in the church, bringing to life the origin and stories of the windows themselves and the Shoreham residents commemorated in them.

Photography, mosaics (Christine Walker), icons (Sister Gillian Mary CSP), sculptures (Teresa Martin) and calligraphy (Nancy Ouchida-Howells) added to the display, as well as the 'Mystic Rose' labyrinth, and a special corner for children's activities kept young visitors amused. St Nicolas' hosted a display of work by the children of St Nicolas and St Mary School, as well as a closer look at the windows in the church. Both churches were open every day throughout the Festival, and many hundreds of visitors were welcomed. Comments in the visitors' books included:
