Church Life
Members of St Mary's Church are currently involved in the following activities.
Farmers' Market Coffee Mornings
The Shoreham Farmers' Market, selling local Sussex produce, takes place in East Street, Shoreham-by-Sea, between 9.00 am and 1.00 pm on the second Saturday of every month. The market normally has around 45 stalls selling a wide range of local fresh produce and goods.
On the same Saturday morning, between 10.00 am and 1.00 pm, St Mary's is open for the sale of tea, coffee, and homemade scones and cakes, with stalls selling plants, church souvenirs and Fairtrade goods; there is also a stall selling secondhand books, videos and CDs. Depending on the time of year, there may be other items on sale such as greetings cards and craftwork, especially at Christmas and during the Adur Festival.
All money raised is given to the Friends of St Mary's Church for the continued restoration of the building.
St Mary's is also a Fairtrade church, which:
- uses Fairtrade tea and coffee after services and in all meetings for which they have responsibility
- moves forward on using other Fairtrade products such as sugar, biscuits and fruit
- promotes Fairtrade during Fairtrade Fortnight and during the year through events, worship and other activities whenever possible
This includes the regular sale of Fairtrade goods at the Farmers' Market Coffee Mornings.
