Welcome & VisitorsWelcome to the website of the Church of Saint Mary de Haura (at the harbour), New Shoreham, which was originally launched on 1st January 2003 to coincide with the Inaugural Service of the church's 900th Anniversary year, and redesigned and relaunched on 1st May 2009.Vicar's WelcomeAll of us who worship and serve in this holy place are aware of the heritage into which we have entered, for St Mary's is a church with a fascinating history and beautiful architecture. This great church has indeed stood as a sign of God's presence at the heart of the town of Shoreham since circa 1103, and it continues to inspire parishioners and visitors alike today. It is our hope that everyone who visits our website will themselves be inspired by it, and will want to come and see the church in person. You will be most welcome, whether you come to join in our regular or special services, to pray alone, to attend a concert or other event, or simply to admire the Norman and Transitional architecture for which the church is renowned. Thank you for visiting our website, and we look forward to welcoming you at St Mary's at some time in the future. Victor

Vicar of St Mary de Haura, New Shoreham Visiting St Mary's
During the summer months, stewards are on duty to welcome visitors and facilitate access to the whole building throughout the Adur Festival in June, and on certain other days as well. It is also possible to see the entire church at the end of the 11.00 am Services on Sundays (about 12.15 pm) and Tuesdays (about 11.45 am) while someone is still on duty, and during Farmers' Market Coffee Mornings on the second Saturday of each month (10.00 am–1.00 pm). At other times, those who wish to view the whole church are invited to contact the Vicar, who will make arrangements for a steward to be present if at all possible, although it may sometimes be necessary to return another day. We look forward to welcoming you. About St Mary'sSt Mary de Haura is the parish church of the fairly small town-centre parish of New Shoreham, but it also acts as the 'town' church for the whole of Shoreham on such occasions as the annual Remembrance Sunday Service, the Town Carol service, and civic services. St Mary de Haura, like all Christian churches, was built and consecrated to the glory of God. It is dedicated in honour of the foremost of all the saints, the Blessed Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. St Mary's enjoys good relations with the other churches of Shoreham and district, and especially with St Nicolas' Church, Old Shoreham, with which it forms an ecclesiastical Plurality within the Diocese of Chichester, both churches having been served by the same Vicar since 1897. St Mary's and St Nicolas' are also constituent churches of the Shoreham and Southwick Group Ministry, together with the Church of the Good Shepherd, Shoreham Beach; St Julian's and St Giles' churches, Kingston Buci; and St Michael & All Angels, Southwick. All of the Shoreham Anglican churches are also members of Shoreham Churches Together, along with their ecumenical partners: St Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Shoreham Baptist Church, Shoreham Free Church, and Shoreham Methodist Church. |
